More on the Belhar...

In seeking for the CRC to be a confessional church, the proposed Belhar Confession certainly rises to the top of the issues discussed. We hope to pass along various resources evaluating the Belhar and balancing some of the information that has been passed on to the congregations in the CRC already. If we are to truly study and evaluate it, we need to have good information.

Below are two resources that will be beneficial to the discussion:

Belhar Overture - from Riverside CRC in Wellandport, ON
"Why Not Belhar?" - essay by Rev. Kevin De Young for Reformed Perspectives

Thanks for posting the excellent overture from Riverside! The RCA Perspectives issue also has a pro-Belhar article.

A Final Word (from me at least) on Belhar (Dr. Mouw)
http://www.netbloghost.com/mouw/
Dr. Mouw has another post on the Belhar - Here are some of his words:I worry about an ongoing confessional drift in those denominations, and wonder how adding yet another confessional document will mean anything important where there is already widespread ignorance of—and in some cases overt hostility toward—specific teachings in the existing confessional documents...these denominations are in a confessional crisis, where key doctrines of the Christian faith in general, and Reformed theology in particular, are being openly denied ... I would be ... gratified if they {the proponents} accompany their support of Belhar as a way of calling for new attention in their denominatons to the question of what it means to be faithful to all of the confessional documents.
