We're Still Here!

No, recently we haven't been posting any blogs... or is it blogging any posts... whatever. We've been watching others' blogs/websites/etc and, of course, just trying to keep up with the demands of local ministry.

We will be starting the process of planning for our spring event (yeah, summer's not even over yet and we're already thinking "spring" - we'll it's been cold here in West Michigan this summer). Any thoughts on speakers/topics would be appreciated. Our goal is help strength and encourage local CRC congregations to be Christ-adoring, lost-seeking, truth-loving, grace-extending, Word-centered, Bible-saturated and confessionally-Reformed. That's still pretty broad, but we've been encouraged by the results of our meetings over the past couple of years.

Most of the action in terms of events has been in West Michigan - but we would encourage congregations to meet together in other areas as well - to encourage one another and discuss the challenges and blessings facing us as a denomination and churches in general. If you're interested in networking in your area, let us know and we can try to help make some connections.

Couple thoughts, 1. Someone to talk about the "New Calvinism", Gerry Breshears might be interesting. 2. You might also consider Michael Horton of White Horse Inn fame, his book "Christless Christianity" could use wider exposure in CRC circles, www.christlesschristianity.com

I appreciate this group. I wonder if there are ways that the "Returning Church" could receive wider exposure in the CRC. I stumbled upon this group as a result of a few contacts at Synod 2009, and since then I have informed other pastors of your existence. We find the vision of the Returning Church to be profoundly encouraging and we want more of leaders to find encouragement and room for discussion here.

Thanks again,
Ryan

Just an idea that popped into my head. Dr. Mouw is not the most "conservative" speaker, but he is very concerned about confessional integrity. Several years ago he spoke to a large crowd of Protestant Reformed folk. He's a capable speaker and could draw from outside "conservative" circles. Have him speak on "A Call to Confessional Integrity" and include references to the Belhar.

It was certainly interesting for me to read this article. Thank you for it. I like such themes and anything connected to this matter. I would like to read more on that blog soon.

From Dave Watson

One item from the Fall Classis News Roundup - Anybody know anything more about this?

In response to an inquiry, Classis Minnkota advised a group of ministers and elders in western Michigan to pursue formation of a classis that would be united theologically. The inquiry noted efforts being made to prepare overtures to Synod 2010 to form such a classis.
