Synod 2007

Synod met from June 9-15 this year at Calvin Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They dealt with many issues this year that you can catch up on by clicking here to go to the Synod's homepage. A summary is posted there. We've prayed the God would lead and guide the delegates by His Word and Spirit. It is disheartening when so many things are advanced merely on personal experience and emotion. Continue to pray that God brings sweeping renewal to the CRC and a revitalized heart for His Word as the rule for both faith and life.

This Synod is HUGE - as huge as God's glory as seen in the beauty of male and female (Gen. 1.27), as huge as the truth of God's Word (1 Timothy 2.11-15), as huge as the church as a pillar of that truth (1 Tim. 3.15; 1 Corinthians 11.16), as huge as the beauty of the gospel as proclaimed in marriage (Ephesians 5.22-33), and as huge as the glory of the Trinity as expressed in both their equality and role distinctions (1 Corinthians 11.3).

I fear that what Synod determines regarding the issue of women as delegates will massively influence the faithfulness of the church and greatly determine whether or not future generations will see a faithful or liberal CRC.

May God be gracious.

I'm still digesting what happened at Synod this year. What I want to hear is comments from other CRC sem students. What are YOU thinking about the denomination you hope to serve in? Curious.

It was heartening especially to those of us in the West that Synod placed Providence Christian College on the approved list for congregational giving. Praise God that we now have a quality reformed Christian liberal arts college on the West Coast where we can send our young people.
